Air conditioner broken and too old to repair?

Before 2010 you could have replaced the outdoor air conditioner and be cool in a few hours. This has all changed effective January 1,2010. New air conditioners must be manufactured using R 410-A whtch is the replacement refrigerant for R-22 Freon and the two are not compatible with one another. Starting this cooling season, in addition to replacing the outdoor air conditioner, the indoor air conditioning coil will also need to be replaced and the piping cleaned of R-22 refrigerant. The advantage is the complete system is more energy efficient and R-410-A is earth friendly and free of chloroflourocarbons which harms our atmosphere.

Installing your air conditioner coil with ductwork alterations, pipe cleaning, etc. will take a full day — almost twice the time it previously took to replace your system. Having your existing system serviced before the season is going to be even more important to avoid a day without air conditioning for your family or tenants.

An additional advantage to shopping early is having the opportunity to select the right system for your home, your budget, and to receive early season manufacturers' rebates. You may also take advantage of New Jersey Clean Energy incentives up to $10,000 for a high efficiency furnace, air conditioner, air sealing, insulation upgrades and more.
